12 (A)If a man lies with his daughter-in-law, both of them shall surely be put to death; they have committed (B)perversion; their blood is upon them. 13 (C)If a man lies with a male as with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination; they shall surely be put to death; their blood is upon them. 14 (D)If a man takes a woman and her mother also, it is depravity; he and they shall be burned with fire, that there may be no depravity among you. 15 (E)If a man lies with an animal, he shall surely be put to death, and you shall kill the animal. 16 (F)If a woman approaches any animal and lies with it, you shall kill the woman and the animal; they shall surely be put to death; their blood is upon them.

17 (G)“If a man takes his sister, a daughter of his father or a daughter of his mother, and sees her nakedness, and she sees his nakedness, it is a disgrace, and they shall be cut off in the sight of the children of their people. He has uncovered his sister's nakedness, and he shall bear his iniquity. 18 (H)If a man lies with a woman during her menstrual period and uncovers her nakedness, he has made naked her fountain, and she has uncovered the fountain of her blood. Both of them shall be cut off from among their people. 19 (I)You shall not uncover the nakedness of your mother's sister or of your father's sister, for that is to make naked (J)one's relative; they shall bear their iniquity. 20 (K)If a man lies with his uncle's wife, he has uncovered his uncle's nakedness; they shall bear their sin; they shall die childless. 21 (L)If a man takes his brother's wife, it is impurity.[a] He has uncovered his brother's nakedness; they shall be childless.

You Shall Be Holy

22 (M)“You shall therefore keep all my statutes and all my rules and do them, that the land where I am bringing you to live may not (N)vomit you out. 23 (O)And you shall not walk in the customs of the nation that I am driving out before you, for they did all these things, and therefore I detested them. 24 But (P)I have said to you, ‘You shall inherit their land, and I will give it to you to possess, a land (Q)flowing with milk and honey.’ I am the Lord your God, (R)who has separated you from the peoples. 25 (S)You shall therefore separate the clean beast from the unclean, and the unclean bird from the clean. You shall not make yourselves detestable by beast or by bird or by anything with which the ground crawls, which I have set apart for you to hold unclean. 26 (T)You shall be holy to me, (U)for I the Lord am holy and have separated you from the peoples, that you should be mine.

27 (V)“A man or a woman who is a medium or a necromancer shall surely be put to death. They shall be (W)stoned with stones; (X)their blood shall be upon them.”

12 In the seventh year of Jehu, Jehoash[a] began to reign, and he reigned forty years in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Zibiah of Beersheba. And Jehoash did what was right in the eyes of the Lord all his days, because Jehoiada the priest instructed him. Nevertheless, (A)the high places were not taken away; the people continued to sacrifice and make offerings on the high places.

Jehoash Repairs the Temple

Jehoash said to the priests, “All the money of the holy things (B)that is brought into the house of the Lord, the money for which each man is assessed—the money from the assessment of persons—and (C)the money that a man's heart prompts him to bring into the house of the Lord, let the priests take, each from his donor, and let them repair the house wherever any need of repairs is discovered.” But by the twenty-third year of King Jehoash, the priests had made no repairs on the house. Therefore King Jehoash summoned Jehoiada the priest and the other priests and said to them, “Why are you not repairing the house? Now therefore take no more money from your donors, but hand it over for the repair of the house.” So the priests agreed that they should take no more money from the people, and that they should not repair the house.

Then Jehoiada the priest took (D)a chest and bored a hole in the lid of it and set it beside the altar on the right side as one entered the house of the Lord. And the priests who guarded the threshold put in it all the money that was brought into the house of the Lord. 10 And whenever they saw that there was much money in the chest, the king's secretary and the high priest came up and they bagged and counted (E)the money that was found in the house of the Lord. 11 Then they would give the money that was weighed out into the hands of the workmen who had the oversight of the house of the Lord. And they paid it out to the carpenters and the builders who worked on the house of the Lord, 12 and (F)to the masons and the stonecutters, as well as to buy timber and quarried stone for making repairs on the house of the Lord, and for any outlay for the repairs of the house. 13 (G)But there were not made for the house of the Lord (H)basins of silver, snuffers, bowls, trumpets, or any vessels of gold, or of silver, from the money that was brought into the house of the Lord, 14 for that was given to the workmen who were repairing the house of the Lord with it. 15 And (I)they did not ask for an accounting from the men into whose hand they delivered the money to pay out to the workmen, for they dealt honestly. 16 The money from (J)the guilt offerings and the money from the (K)sin offerings was not brought into the house of the Lord; (L)it belonged to the priests.

13 Thus you were adorned with gold and silver, and your clothing was of fine linen and silk and embroidered cloth. (A)You ate fine flour and honey and oil. (B)You grew exceedingly beautiful and advanced to royalty. 14 And (C)your renown went forth among the nations because of your beauty, for it was perfect through the splendor that I had bestowed on you, declares the Lord God.

15 (D)“But you trusted in your beauty (E)and played the whore[a] because of your renown (F)and lavished your whorings[b] on any passerby; your beauty[c] became his. 16 You took some of your garments and made for yourself colorful shrines, and on them played the whore. The like has never been, nor ever shall be.[d] 17 You also took (G)your beautiful jewels of my gold and of my silver, which I had given you, and (H)made for yourself images of men, and with them played the whore. 18 And you took your embroidered garments to cover them, (I)and set my oil and my incense before them. 19 (J)Also my bread that I gave you—(K)I fed you with fine flour and oil and honey—you set before them for (L)a pleasing aroma; and so it was, declares the Lord God. 20 (M)And you took your sons and your daughters, whom you had borne to me, and (N)these you sacrificed to them to be devoured. Were your whorings so small a matter 21 that you slaughtered my children and delivered them up as an offering by fire to them? 22 And in all your abominations and your whorings you did not remember (O)the days of your youth, (P)when you were naked and bare, wallowing in your blood.

23 “And after all your wickedness (woe, woe to you! declares the Lord God), 24 you built yourself (Q)a vaulted chamber and made yourself a lofty place in every square. 25 At the head of every street (R)you built your lofty place and made (S)your beauty an abomination, (T)offering yourself[e] to any passerby and multiplying your whoring. 26 (U)You also played the whore (V)with the Egyptians, your lustful neighbors, (W)multiplying your whoring, (X)to provoke me to anger. 27 Behold, therefore, I stretched out my hand against you (Y)and diminished your allotted portion (Z)and delivered you to the greed of your enemies, (AA)the daughters of the Philistines, who were ashamed of your lewd behavior. 28 (AB)You played the whore also (AC)with the Assyrians, because you were not satisfied; yes, you played the whore with them, and still you were not satisfied.

(A)He will not always chide,
    nor will he (B)keep his anger forever.
10 He does not deal with us (C)according to our sins,
    nor repay us according to our iniquities.
11 For (D)as high as the heavens are above the earth,
    so great is his (E)steadfast love toward (F)those who fear him;
12 as far as the east is from the west,
    so far does he (G)remove our transgressions from us.
13 As (H)a father shows compassion to his children,
    so the Lord shows compassion (I)to those who fear him.
14 For he knows our frame;[a]
    he (J)remembers that we are dust.

15 As for man, his days are like (K)grass;
    he flourishes like (L)a flower of the field;
16 for (M)the wind passes over it, and (N)it is gone,
    and (O)its place knows it no more.
17 But (P)the steadfast love of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting on (Q)those who fear him,
    and his righteousness to (R)children's children,
18 to those who (S)keep his covenant
    and (T)remember to do his commandments.
19 The Lord has (U)established his throne in the heavens,
    and his (V)kingdom rules over all.

20 Bless the Lord, O you (W)his angels,
    you (X)mighty ones who (Y)do his word,
    obeying the voice of his word!
21 Bless the Lord, all his (Z)hosts,
    his (AA)ministers, who do his will!
22 (AB)Bless the Lord, all his works,
    in all places of his dominion.
(AC)Bless the Lord, O my soul!

Jesus Sends Out the Twelve Apostles

(A)And he called the twelve together and gave them power and authority over all demons and to cure diseases, (B)and he sent them out to (C)proclaim the kingdom of God and to heal. (D)And he said to them, “Take nothing for your journey, (E)no staff, nor bag, nor bread, nor money; and do not have two tunics.[a] And whatever house you enter, stay there, and from there depart. And wherever they do not receive you, when you leave that town (F)shake off the dust from your feet (G)as a testimony (H)against them.” (I)And they departed and went through the villages, preaching the gospel and healing everywhere.

Herod Is Perplexed by Jesus

(J)Now (K)Herod the tetrarch heard about all that was happening, and he was perplexed, because it was said by some that (L)John had been raised from the dead, (M)by some that Elijah had appeared, and (N)by others that one of the prophets of old had risen. Herod said, “John I beheaded, but who is this about whom I hear such things?” And (O)he sought to see him.

16 So we do not lose heart. (A)Though our outer self[a] is wasting away, (B)our inner self (C)is being renewed day by day. 17 For (D)this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, 18 (E)as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal.

Our Heavenly Dwelling

For we know that if (F)the tent that is (G)our earthly home is destroyed, we have a building from God, (H)a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. For in this tent (I)we groan, longing to (J)put on our heavenly dwelling, if indeed by putting it on[b] we may not be found naked. For while we are still in this tent, we groan, being burdened—not that we would be unclothed, but that we would be further clothed, so that what is mortal (K)may be swallowed up by life. He who has prepared us for this very thing is God, (L)who has given us the Spirit as a guarantee.

So we are always of good courage. We know that (M)while we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord, for (N)we walk by faith, not (O)by sight. Yes, we are of good courage, and we (P)would rather be away from the body and at home with the Lord. So whether we are at home or away, we make it our aim to (Q)please him. 10 For (R)we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, (S)so that each one may receive what is due for what he has done in the body, whether good or evil.
